This weeks Sunday Social ride report from Andy Parker:

There’s always time to ride your bike

The weather forecast and busy December diaries dictated that KCC’s club social ride was for the few this week with Will Lawton, Ian Bird, Andy King and Andy Parker being the only ones to venture out.

Rivers of mud
At the start of the ride the rain was light but roads were carrying a lot of water and the run into Hannington looked like the local streams had broken their banks and washed the soil off the fields.

Trimming the route to get out of the cold
An increasingly chilly please and more persistent rain as we crossed the River Nene at Billing triggered a shortening of the planned ride, cutting out a short loop around Castle Ashby and heading back up through Earl’s Barton and on to Mears Ashby. By this time my feet were freezing despite two layers of neoprene overshoes – I felt sorry for Will Lawton (still a relative newcomer to the social rides) with just his normal cycling shoes.

Incident free
Despite the cold and rain, we managed possibly our last social Sunday ride without any incidents and all sticking pretty much together. With incidents of Covid 19 rising locally, it is anticipated that Kettering could be moving into Tier 3 after Wednesday’s review – so we may not be able have a club ride next but, if we can, it will be posted on Wednesday evening.

I look forward to seeing you next week!
