I was joined this week by Jon Thorne, who’s been a regular attendee and we achieved a nice steady zone 2 pace for the duration of the ride.

It doesn’t get much better than this

The weather at the start of the ride was clear but fresh but, as the sun rose higher in the sky the temperature became perfect for cycling. “It doesn’t get much better than this” said Jon during the third hour of the ride; along with the ideal temperature, there were quiet roads that had smooth tarmac on them, not much wind and the sunshine brought out the prettiest features of the fabulous villages and countryside we rode through.

Topics of discussion

Along the way our discussions varied from the mechanics of pensions for Teachers to the best tyres for TT racing, Tubs or Clinchers. Those conversations were interrupted when we saw a couple of classic cars, the first a BMW 2002 from the late ’70’s I think and then an Aston Martin DB5.

That said, we also had to be on our guard for farming machinery as it’s harvest time and the rush to make the most of the sunshine to get those crops in. Keep them in mind as you get out on your bikes in the next few weeks!

Fantastic ride

All of that contributed to a fantastic ride where the hours just flew by and I hope more can join in while the weather is still kind to us.

Next week

Next week’s ride will be on Tuesday 8th. I’ll post a route soon but if anybody has any suggestions that would enable them to join us let me know ASAP and I’ll do my best to work them in.
