It was over to E2/10 at Six Mile Bottom for a group of KCC riders, the Barkers, Sam and Rob with the ladies, Sue Rust, Maria Gent and Bethany Spencer as they were accepted in the Eastern Counties CA 10mile Championship on Saturday 26th June 21.

The forecast was undesirable with the forecast of a wet day, but as it turned out, by the time the first rider was off it was beaming with sunshine, as riders gathered to warm up opposite the start, the tree tops were still but finishing riders were saying how tough the ride back was!  There was a easterly cross wind, that was equally split or both the out and return segments, giving no tail wind to benefit from.

The course is held on the A11

The E2/10 is known to be a fast course. However it also relies on the wind direction to put in fast times as the head wind is unforgiving. The course is an out and back, out south on the A11 for 5.2 miles and then taking the slip round to the turn point at the Fourwentways roundabout and return leg is a re-trace back to the slip road to Six Mile Bottom, to the finish. It’s a rolling course, with the only significant climb at the turn point up to the roundabout.

KCC Club Records take a tumble

Bethany has done it again. Slicing 16 seconds off the Ladies 10mTT Junior Club Record with a 23:20, previously held by Bethany back in 2019 on the F11/10 23:36! There’s no sopping her this season.

The trio of ladies have done it again, Sue, Maria and Bethany have also smashed the KCC 10mTT Ladies Team Club Record. Previously set in 2018, the same trio of ladies time of 1:18:25 on the N18/10. Now 3 years later they do it again, securing the club record with a joint total time of 1:10:17. Smashing a whopping 8:08 off the previous time.

Sue Rust 22:39
Maria Gent 24:18
Bethany Spencer 23:20

The Championship event featured a strong field of KCC riders

We also had KCC finishing strong in the overall positioning, with Sue taking a podium third place in the ladies field being just 12 seconds off 2nd place, her 22:39 (68th overall).

The boys did good as well

The KCC field included Sam Barker finished with a 19:50 (16th overall) and Rob Barker 20:45 (40th overall).

Fastest on the afternoon was Paul Pardoe (Peterborough CC)  18:33. Over 50% of the riders achieved PB’s – it was a fast day.

I am really privileged to be part of these young ladies achievements, for me it’s about maintaining my times. These two young ladies journey’s are in infancy in comparison and there’s a lot more to come from them.

Rob and Sam did super quick times and they deserve an applause, and it was great to have a mixed line up of KCC riders.
