You can always top a disappointing year with a trophy!
Adrian Gorham has had a disappointing cycling year beset by knee injuries and weight gains but that was not going to stop him defending his title as the holder of the KCC Freewheeling trophy.
The competition is held every year and involves rolling downhill from Cransley towards Broughton and the winner is the cyclist who rolls furthest up the opposite hill towards Broughton. Entrants are not allowed to pedal at all.
Adrian has won the trophy every year it has been held since 2015 (with the exception of 2020 when the event could not be held because of COVID restrictions)
On a perfect sunny Sunday morning with very little wind affecting the course, Adrian was up against some stiff competition with Gary Carter, Mark Skinner, Richard Lindsley, Roger Reed and James Belton all trying to usurp Adrian by various means that included high end equipment, special diets, aerodynamic positioning on the bike, trial runs and even two attempts on different bikes!
All this came to nothing with Adrian once again achieving what many thought would be impossible and securing the title for a seventh time and beating his nearest competitor, Richard Lindsley, by 20metres!
In fact, Adrian rolled further this year than any other year and so, despite his setbacks, his single minded dedication to this event continues to set standards that some are beginning to think may never be beaten.
Thanks
A big thank you to Roger Reed for again organising this years event and the riders and spectators that supported the event.
