On Sunday Lukas and I entered the 2024/2025 CX season by doing the round one of the WMCCL at Ullenhall, south of Birmingham. Despite horendous rain on the way out the grass field where the race took place kept shape with little mud when Lukas started his race just before midday. It was his first U14 race doing the full course and 30 minutes. Clearly the acredditation course at Derby velodrome yesterday took its toll and Lukas struggled to keep up with the fast riders coming 8th out of 21 riders which was good place. I started the Vet40 from the back of the 100+ field of riders as I was not afiliated to the league. By the time of my race the field was bone dry and promised fast race. Well these were one of the hardest 50 minutes of my life. With average heart rate @172bpm I crossed the line at 20th place out of 49 which was the best place I have ever done in CX race. Really pleased with the outcome of today. If you never tried CX I strongly recoment you give it a go. The intensity is crazy but you fill feel over the moon once you get over the line. LCXL next Sunday in Leicester. Come along and give it a go. They have a Novice race too.
