Stowmarket & District C.C. 10 mile TT

Date/Time: 31/05/21 08:13
Distance: 10m
Course: B10/38

Result(s): 22:35    Position: 35

It’s taken until the 31st of May to warm up but the warmer weather was certainly welcome for the early start just west of Bury St Edmunds.

Thanks to my dog I was up earlier than I had planned and that turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise (and a lesson for all testers) as it gave me time to drive around the course before the race had started.

On my reconnoissance lap I took a wrong turn at the only junction which would have caused me all sorts of problems in the race so I was glad I made the mistake when it didn’t matter.

The roads near to the start of the race were great for warming up and I was met by a couple of friendly starters on the slip road to the A14. The course is an undulating out and back but a slightly longer out than back.

The wind for the race was coming from the east so was a headwind for the opening leg. The turn involved a rise over the A14 before turning back on itself to pick up the road again and this was the only part of the course where I wasn’t on my aero bars. The return leg was certainly helped by the wind and I ended up with a time very close to what BestBikeSplit had said I’d achieve.

Everybody I met seemed very friendly and I would recommend the event if you want a reasonably quick course and nice race atmosphere albeit with a reasonable distance to travel.
