Severe gusts of up to 37mph! Event Cancelled.

Time Keepers: Eddie Smith & Jon Thorne

Marshal: Ken Hennah

A big thanks to them for turning up and getting themselves ready for a soaking, as without them the event would not be able to go ahead.

It all looked promising as riders turned up for the TT at Lamport on Thursday night, with what can only be described as stormy, the grey skies and rain did not put of 10 hardy soles prepping and heading off to warm up for the race start.

As a rider we waited until we had to before setting off on a warm up, the rain was constant but light and with the high winds, there was not standing water to worry about.

Gathering at the start, with minutes before the first rider was due to take to the starting line up, as riders came to assemble, concerns were raised about the gusts of wind at times 30+mph, and a few riders declared they were not going to race and asked to be DNS, the timekeepers and parents of the junior riders, took a tough decision and declared for the safety of the riders to cancel and not race.

Cancelled

“I think Jon made the right call”, says Sue Rust, adding: “On my warm up to the start, coming out of the Foxhall turn onto the airfield straight the wind gusts made it impossible to change from the upright to the aero bars, and then when I did get the chance, I couldn’t get back off of them until I as in the protection of the cottages at the start. I don’t think I’ve ever turned up to a club race and not raced, it was heart stopping at times! I think I was the first rider to pull out. I think it was the right decision to cancel.

Thank you for all those riders who turned up to race and the volunteers and the efforts it takes to get ready with all the signs and then collect them all back up.

Let’s hope the weather improves for next week.

Thanks for turning up to ride: Mick Wood, Eddie Hennah, Lucas Buksh, Sue Rust, Jean-Sebastien Vecten, Chris Jones, Adam Shaw, Josh & Hans van Nierop and Lindsay Scott.
