It has been a stalled season to Covid restrictions, the start of the TT season has finally got going with this first TT held on Thursday night at Grafton Underwood.
The sky was so dark it was astonishing that the race remained dry, but what was a surprise was the brisk, gusty westerly gusts that became the challenge for the riders. Despite the weather the riders gathered to take part in the first of our TT’s.
A strong field of Road Bike category made up the majority of the field, and we attracted guest riders and come and try.
KCC Riders
Josh Brown was strong and undeterred by the wind, coming first with a time of 32:17, significantly comfortable win with Hudson Hendry taking second with 34:40, just stealing that from Lindsey Smith’s 34:59 all riding road bikes. Crossing the finish line fourth on the night was Sue Rust, taking first place in the ladies 37:13, stealing it from Maria 37:28 and Lucas Buksh, our only junior rider on the night producing a great time with a road bike setup finished overall tenth with a time of 42:16. Well done Lucas.
Eddie took the Sudborough turn, and went off route, he isn’t the first and he probably won’t be the last, as a guide the Brigstock turn is approx 9.8m/10m around the course, so it’s worth just noting that, as the climb up to Brigstock does seem never ending, and it’s easy to want to turn off! Looking forward to next time Ed, and seeing you in the fast finishers.
Guest Riders
Fastest overall on the night came from Richard Jones (Renvale RT) with stonking time of 30:19, which is astonishing on this sporting course averaging 26.12mph on a Road Bike setup! He was a clear first being over 4 mins quicker than his closest rival Stu Plows 34:44, with Guy Towers, taking third with 41:46
It was lovely to see Kat Baxter Smith, Helen Etherington and Guy Towers having a go at their first time trial, and hope they enjoyed it.
Next week it’s a Ladies & Junior counting event, lets hope it’s kinder.
