Time Keeper: Jon Thorne

Marshal: Tony Brown & Mike Cope

A big thanks to them, as without them the event would not be able to go ahead.

Storms forecasted

The field of riders for this evenings TT were not deterred by the forecast. The storms had been their worst during the morning with torrential rain, with further due in the evening, amazingly, it stayed dry throughout the warm up and race.

It was warming up, being muggy and humid with the roads damp but drying quickly. There was the usual standing water opposite Mawsley but easily avoided, and there was build up of dirt and gravel on the Lamport to Old decent from the torrential rain flowing across the road from earlier, but, nothing that was slowing the riders. And, there was a very moderate breeze, which neither hindered or gave gains around this sporting 9.4 mile course.

Emerging talent

Talking of storms, we witnessed a storming ride by junior Amy Bird, what a brilliant ride and Amy was so pleased securing a PB of a minute, 25:39 smashed with a ride of 24:39, taking the win of the ladies category convincingly from Sue Rust, who was showing signs of fatigue, “which is no excuse, all credit to Amy, it was a super ride, I had nothing in my legs tonight”, Sue commented.

The ride from Amy, shows the emerging talent we are seeing from her since she started to compete last season, and now, with a TT setup she is a serious contender for the ladies and there is a lot more to come from Amy next season, I personally cannot wait to see her break some of the junior records when she gets on a fast course.

Amy, pictured above in an earlier race on the Old 9.4m TT course. Hopefully Tony Hutton has one for this race.

A special mention

We rarely give any credit or mention of the achievements of Mick Wood, who I don’t think has missed a race, other than for marshalling duties. His passion and dedication to cycling, especially for me, his participation in our club TT’s shows that cycling competively is for everyone, at any age and at any level of physical fitness, as you’re racing against the clock and yourself. I’d like to say it’s a real honour to represent the same club as Mick. Well done you show us how its done.

Mixing up the result with a mixed field

The Old loop attracted a mixed field of riders from KCC and guests, almost half on road bike setup and we had another good turnout of the ladies on the start line including Sue Davys, joining us for her first KCC TT ride of the season, also with us, the return of Natalie Sharp. We also had the pleasure of David Hodgson giving TT’s a go and new member Satpual Dard on their road bikes. Sadly Warren Drew (RaphaCC) DNS(A) was unable to join us after a hard crash out on his bike on Monday, we wish Warren a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him if he returns this season, otherwise, Warren, see you next season.

Just a 00:00:01 (second) in it

The overall win was Martin Patmore (Velo Elite) with the fastest ride of the night 22:02 who only just beat Eddie Smith took the win for KCC with 22:03 how close is that!

For the club, KCC, taking first, Eddie Smith 22:03, Adrian Gorham second 23:04 who was being chased down by Andy King on his road bike taking third with 23:30.

Ladies, we saw that brilliant ride by Amy to take the ladies first place with 24:39, Sue Rust 25:14 with Maria Gent taking third 25:31 (well done Maria who only just got back from a walking holiday camping in Derbyshire that afternoon).

Road bike category Andy King was a clear winner with his 23:30, securing second Mark Buckby 24:50 and taking third Stuart McCagney 26:06.

Junior win was also for Amy, being the only Junior riding.

Guest riders, first place was taken by Martin Patmore (Velo Elite) 22:02, Rob Clapham on his road bike took second with 22:12 (a superb time on a road bike) with Simon Fitzhugh third 23:43.

Andrea Woolcott DNS, Darren Gillings DNS, Warren Drew DNS(A).

Well done all and we look forward to seeing you again. Only two more races this season!
