A good bike ride followed by a cooked breakfast. What’s not to like about that?
It was an early start for the riders and volunteers at the Club 50 mile Championship on the N7 Earls Barton course.
The wind was a good south westerly which helped with the push up the only rise on the course (although that did need to be navigated 6 times!) but made the Earls Barton to Billing leg a bit of a grind apparently.
The standout ride of the morning has to be Andy Fairley’s 1:54:05. He told us afterwards that he’s never been under the hour for a 25 mile TT. I don’t think that will be too much of a challenge for him. Andy’s TT bike isn’t old school but his race preparation was: he rode out from home and rode back afterwards. 👍
Eddie Smith had tweaked his position before the race but realised quite early in the ride that he’d gone a bit radical and suffered as a result. But he still picked up 2nd place in the championship.
Our one guest was Drew Sheffield. He rode his road bike with a smile on his face to a strong time of 2:03:11. Thanks for supporting the race Drew and I hope we’ll see you again.
In addition to the guys riding 50 miles Chris Old wanted a shot at a 25 miler which he did in a creditable 58:47.
Thanks to you all for your efforts and good spirits.
Multi-skilled volunteers
SignUp Genius only asked for marshals and timekeepers. Between Andy King, Jamie and Charlie Stockham we had that sorted. But with Charlie we also had a great maker of bacon rolls as well as a mushroom roll for Eddie. Thank you all, your input into the morning was fantastic.
